Chinese New Year Light-Up 2016

Be awed by more than 2,600 handcrafted lanterns in all shapes and sizes that dot the streets in Chinatown. The light up will run for 52 days until 8 March 2016 to usher in the Chinese New Year, Year of the Monkey. Chinatown will be transformed into a heavenly garden filled with playful monkeys and peach trees that conveys joy, longevity and prosperity.

Besides the light up, visitors can enjoy a range of activities, including the Festive Street Bazaar and Festive Carnival. With a variety of stalls lining up the streets of Chinatown, visitors can feast on mouth-watering New Year delicacies and goodies such as cookies, pineapple tarts, pruned ‘lapis’ (spice cake) preserved fruits and waxed duck. You may also find decorative items, potted plants, clothing and more.

There will be nightly stage shows at Kreta Ayer Square, near the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum, such as vibrant Chinese cultural performances, festive songs, music and dance performances by local entertainers and troupes from China.

Celebrate the peak of the festivities by joining the New Year countdown between 9:30pm to 12:30am at New Bridge Road and Eu Tong Seng Street, hosted by MediaCorp artistes with live performances, rousing firecrackers and spectacular display of fireworks.

Visitors may want to take note on the few highlights happening in Chinatown.
