Main Light Up at Orchard Road
It’s time of the year for the much anticipated Christmas light up and there is no better place to spend Christmas in Singapore than on Singapore’s must-see Orchard Road shopping belt, which will come alive in hues of blue, turquoise and sapphire from 12 November 2016 to 2 January 2017.
Under the theme “Spread the Joy”, which encourages everyone to spread joy in as many ways as possible, the light-up spans 2.88km from Tanglin Mall to Plaza Singapore. It will feature seven set pieces, such as a 12-metre tall arch glowing reindeer in different colours and orbs containing stars. Visitors can also interact with the set pieces, which will start flashing lights and playing music when you place your hand on them.
Inspired by celebratory and wildly popular elements, glowing reindeer and shimmering stars take center-stage on arches, overhangs, trees and sidewalks, transforming Orchard Road into a Christmas spectacle for locals and tourists to immerse themselves in the magic of the season.
Visitors can look forward to witness the official light-up ceremony at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza on Saturday, November 12. The stretch between Scotts Road and Bideford Road will be closed to vehicles from 3pm to 11pm to allow visitors to fully bask in the festive atmosphere, with stall selling handcrafted gifts, food trucks and performances.
Myriad of Christmas activities and performances are planned for festive season. Carollers and musicians from various schools will also perform at Paragon and Orchardgateway.
Be sure to catch a glimpse of the decorated malls, such as Forum The Shopping Mall, ION Orchard, Paragon, Tanglin Mall, The Centrepoint and more, all vying for the title of Best Dressed Building. The public can vote for their favourite between November 12 to 27 by downloading OneOrchard app Orchard Road Facebook page to win one of 15 $200 shopping vouchers.
Alternatively, visitors can go to the many other places around the island for Christmas light up.
